People Mags: Most Beautiful.......What?

Ever look at People's Magazine's list of, Most Beautiful People and go,.......huh?
I mean, how do some of these people make this list?
To give but one example,
"Dale Earnhardt Jr."
This guy is ordinary at best. Sure he's a successful race car driver, but beyond that, he's just another guy. If you passed him on the street or at your high school, you wouldn't give him a second look.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big race car guy. I enjoy watching auto racing from Formula One, to the Indy cars, and including NASCAR. High performance cars are part of my life.
No, I am no "redneck", "beer guzzling," guy that has a confederate flag on his truck. The last time I looked in my garage, I don't own a truck. I just simply like cars that go fast.
Oh, and I'm not gay either.
Just want to clear that up before we get off on the wrong race track.
Getting back to the main topic here. So, how does a guy, with red hair, a pointed nose, and squinting eyes, make the, "hottie list." of People Magazine?
Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn't even considered one, most attractive, on the NASCAR circuit.
I'm delighted that someone from, Auto Racing, made the list, but I think they picked the wrong guy. I asked my girl friend and a few of her friends about Dale Jr. and there response was, "he's ok, but nothing special." One of the woman elaborated a bit further with her reply with, she would jump, Tony Stewart's bones, in a New York second. "Whew!" That was more information then I needed to know for sure.
Now I've only used but one example here.
And Please, I don't mean to pick on Dale Jr. I've seen some woman on this list that were 5's at best. At some of the places where I hang, they would be working hard just to get the bartenders attention. On the other hand, some of the places where I have stumbled into, they would be welcome company.
Wait a minute! Maybe it's who you are, that qualifies a person for this, elite list of the, so called, beautiful people. In the past, I've read that some celebs, that knew Tom Selleck say, that his brother, "what's his name," makes Tom look like hamburger
hmmmmm!
Maybe I've answered my own question.
So..............Never mind!

I have to say that it seems to be more about being famous than being beautiful. You are right probably at least 25% of these people wouldn't even rate a passing glance on the street especially for the women when they are not made up. This is who the people magazine staff decides is beautiful. There are some guys that are not good looking at all that some of my friends love such as Kenny Chesney ?!? - that is the biggest huh? out there. Honestly if you like him and like how he sings fine but good looking - I don't think so.

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. We all find different things aesthetically pleasing. Certain non-physical traits endear us to others also, and those warm feelings then make that person beautiful and other people who have similar physical traits beautiful, by proxy.
In our personal relationships, things like a funny-shaped nose on our partner can become something we treasure about them and find beautiful in others.
In celebrities, the personalities of characters they play can endear us (I think David Duchovny is so hot, and I know it's because I liked his character on X-Files) as well as our admiration for their talent, their money, their lifestyle, or their actual personality. I think it's refreshing that People magazine looks beyond the "cookie cutter" for their featured celebs.
Great article Insightful.

Oops! Sorry about that!
Didn't mean to offend anyone. It's just that some folks have a tendency to stereotype others, should they have interests in a particular subject.
One of my good friends is an auto tech, that happens to have a truck, and he can drink me under the table. He has no qualms about admitting to being a redneck.
But.................he can, fine tune a high performance car like you wouldn't believe.

Insight - I hear ya, little depresses me more than the interest we take in celebrity's lives and the rediculous amount of money we pay them to make sure we have someone's life that we may never attain to aspire too.

Please, I'm soooooo sorry.
Please forgive???
Didn't mean to neglect the opposite sex.
Of course, your original reply, makes total sense. It's what's inside a person that attracts one to another, on the long term.
Yes, I too have fallen for a particular character in a movie. Reality tells me, that they are probably something much different.
I've also been physically attracked to someone by there looks, and they opened their mouth and ruined the whole thing.
So of course........it's what's inside the package that maintains the value.
Again, I apologize

It's been brought to my attention that I may have been neglecting the female gender. I certainly did not mean to do that. So if you can forgive me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Re: your reply.......
Of course the staff decides who the Beautiful People are.
It makes for good marketing.
I agree with you regarding Kenny Chesney. Yuck!
I fell in love with this song and the voice. I didn't know who it belonged to but I just loved it.
One day, my kids were watching MTV and, the song, came on. I rushed to the TV to see the who the artist was.
It was K.D. Lang.
I thought that I was going to lose my lunch.
She was singing this song and there were cockroaches crawling all over the place. It was just awful.
I better quit on this as it's almost dinner time and would like to keep my dinner down.
Thanks again.

Also, I've read many of your articles and have enjoyed most of them. When someone replies to my pieces, I can't remember, who is male and who is female.
But I recognize the name.
"Texas Wahine."

I ask myself the same question when I watch any of these stupid rank shows on VH1 or E! How come Jennifer Lopez is always number one? She's not ugly, but she's not number one either....
that's howcome I decided to just give up on this celebrity crap. it's rediculous.
